Buen Camino Kristin!
Help us fund the purchase of a new, much needed Tissue Processer for the Belleville Hospital!
You are reading this blog post because you have a connection to Kristin Crowe, Judi Rufo, or Doug Peterson. You most likely know all three. We hope you will help send us off to Spain in style and support a special project we have put together. There's a story behind this.
You are familiar with the journey Kristin has been forced to walk since her first cancer diagnosis over 15 years ago.
Now, she is embarking on a journey of a different sort—one she has dreamed of for a long time.
As you probably know, Kristin is an avid hiker, cyclist, and yogi who, in recent years, has focused on her physical, mental, and spiritual health as she dances with the partners she has been given.
Three cancer battles, multiple surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy and most recently the loss of much of her vision caused by her last craniotomy. Despite all that, Kristin has met these challenges head-on and done it with Grit and Grace.
Last September, Doug and Judi walked 127 km of the Camino de Santiago from Baiona, Spain, to Santiago de Compostela, where St. James Cathedral has been the destination of pilgrims for hundreds of years. It was a life-changing experience, and they vowed they would go back to walk another section of the Camino.
While discussing their plans for a Camino return (probably after hot yoga class) Kristin mentioned the Camino has always been on her bucket list. With with her current vision challenges, its not something she could manage on her own.
Seconds later, it was happening! The three of us were planning our new Camino adventure for May 2025.
Well, May is here and we’re flying to Porto Portugal on the 15th. After a rest night in Porto we will make our way to Sarria, Spain and start our journey on the 18th. We will walk 114 km to Santiago and we will average 12 km per day. A leisurely pace so these three friends can enjoy the journey, the scenery and each other.
Last week we were inspired to use our Camino journey as a fundraiser for the Belleville Hospital Foundation!
We hope to help fund the purchase of a new, much needed Tissue Processer for the Belleville Hospital.
This will replace an obsolete piece of equipment and provide greater accuracy and efficiency for pathologists and provide physicians with diagnostic information sooner which helps provide the best patient results possible.
We hope you will attend a small bon voyage gathering at the Belleville Club on Wednesday, May 14th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Just a simple gathering of friends to celebrate and send us off with a purpose.
Local renowned caterers Wayne Dewe, Bernie Oullett and Dave Albert have been engaged and will bring their culinary skills to the event.
